Syria's President Bashar al-Assad

"Most victims are from the city of Homs. Among them are two women. The electricity is cut in some neighborhoods. It discloses some methods of tortureused by the regime of Bashar al Assad."

Local Coordination Committees have indicated that at least eleven people were shot in Homs, a city west of the country, two more in the province of Idleb, located (north) andone in Qamesli (northeast).

The cruelty with the city of Homs has a very simple reason: it is one of the bastions opposition against President Bashar al Assad. It is also one of the cities that have suffered. The Syrian regime has used torture techniques in interrogation opponents especially in this city, located in the west.

Observers Degún of Syrian organization for Human Rights reported that the security forces often resort to such practices as "torture the cat ", which is that a naked prisoner is introduced along with a cat in a sack, a technique used primarily for to talk to women. Another mechanism of torture is called "roast chicken "and is to hang the prisoners for hours at a metal pole, while being hit in the ear to break their eardrums, burn them with cigarettes or objects were introduced by the straight

Amnesty International has charged that the government uses torture as a political strategy.

More than 4,000 people have died since the beginning of the revolution in mid-March, and it is estimated also that more than 30 000 people were arrested, including relatives of dissidents. There is talk already of a civil war in Syria, which is ravaging the country.

Syria is key to Middle East. This is mostly a Sunni country, but the Assad dynasty belongs to the sect Allawi, a Shiite branch.

Bashar Al Assad assumed his position against the government in 2000. Succeeded his father, who died after ruling the country for 39 years, since it gave a coup in 1971. Ruled by the Baath single party, which established a single candidate for the election and gave Assad dynasty to rule the country.
