LAREDO, Texas - A gloomy episode was ended with the death of 12-year-old Ramie Marie Grimmer, who died yesterday (Wednesday, Dec. 07) at a San Antonio hospital, Laredo police spokesperson said. Her 10-year-old brother is still in critical condition. Both were shot dead by their mother who shot and killed herself later on, after a 7-hour stand-off with police.
According to details; the 38-year-old mother Rachelle Grimmer killed herself after shooting her children because she was denied the food stumps for her family by Texas Department of Health and Human Services.
Ramie Marie Grimmer updated her Facebook status as “may die 2day” during the stand-off with police few hours before she was actually shot by her mother. During the 7-hour stand-off, the apparent Facebook profile of Ramie Marie Grimmer was updated frequently.
Grimmer had been involved in a scuffle with the welfare department to try to gain benefits for her family since July this year; but the welfare department has refused allegedly because of not submitting enough information.
Reportedly, Grimmer took her children to the welfare department in Laredo on Monday at 5pm and demanded to speak to a supervisor, when refused she pulled out a handgun and began threatening several employees, police said.
Two of the department’s staff were held hostage by the Grimmer. She later on released a hostage and occupied another room with his children and a hostage while a SWAT team managed to evacuate 30 people. She released the the last hostage at 7.45pm but stayed inside the building with her children.Grimmer hung up the phone with negotiators at about 11.45 pm and just after moments she shot her children and herself. The SWAT team at the front of the building heard children crying after three shots and officers rushed in just to find the three bloodied bodies in the front office. The children were immediately shifted to a hospital in critical condition by an air ambulance. The mother was dead at the spot.
