News source Chicago Sun Times. Dallas Texas. Former Chicago Cubs third baseman Ron Santo who played in eight All Star Games, won five Golden Glove awards and hit 342 home runs in his Major League Baseball career was elected into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2012 by votes of the Golden Era Committee on Monday.

Santo was the only candidate to get 75% of the votes needed to be inducted to the Hall of Fame from the 16 members of the committee.

Santo is the first third baseman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since Wade Boggs was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2005.

Santo died on December 3, 2010. Santo will be joined in the Hall of Fame Class of 2012 by any electees who are voted in by the Baseball Writers' Association of America which will be announced on January 9, 2012.
