"It is within the results that we present the continuity of the peptide (low molecular weight proteins) antitumor cancer treatment, where we are raising a very bold projection, but possible," said Jose Fraga Castro, director of the State Business Group Labiofam , which develops and markets the drug Vidatox internationally.
The manager revealed that three new projects will be presented at the Second International Congress of its laboratories, scheduled for September 2012. It is "to achieve, from the toxin, a product for cancer treatment for the recovery of the sick , even for the prophylaxis of persons from families with a predisposition to cancer, "he said.
"There are no results yet, is the projection of the investigation," he said. However, predicted: "We have found antiviral peptides, peptides and peptide-tumor and anti-inflammatory painkillers."
Labiofam currently working on 36 projects aimed at improving human and animal health. The priority is the fight against cancer, for which products Fraga has described as "complementary", some developed from plant mango and banana.
According to Cuban scientists, the blue scorpion venom (the actual color is mahogany) is toxic if applied in a parenteral (injectable), but by mouth is safe.
Labiofam has developed these scorpions farms across the island with a population of 5000 animals each. The life of these insects is two years and venom is extracted every 21 days with electrical stimulation.
