GAUHATI: Police say a bomb explosion has killed at least one person in India’s violence-wracked northeast.

A police officer says the blast occurred Wednesday near a large fairground in Imphal, the capital of Manipur state. The area is near a reunion center that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to visit Saturday.

The control official says the prey appeared to have been moving the bomb.

The official did not spot himself, citing section policy.

Few other facts were right away available.

Pro-independence groups in the area claim the local populace is unnoticed by the federal government.

Most inhabitants are racially closer to groups in Myanmar and China than the rest of India.
