26-year old Katia Zatuliveter has won her case to remain in the UK and not face deportation. She worked as a researcher in parliamentary affairs with 65-year old Mike Hancock, the British Liberal Democrat MP from south Portsmouth.
Katia had been under suspicion of being a spy working for the Russians. The SIAC (Special Immigration Appeals Committee) has said that there was no conclusive evidence to prove that Katia was a spy. The Home Office is not happy with the decision because they insist that Katia was indeed working with the Russian interest in mind.
The accusation was against the backdrop of lifting the lid of a major spy network in the USA. In that confirmed case, a high profile woman Anna Chapman had been deported to Russia along with several other Russians.
Right now, Katia is in possession of a work visa that is valid upto August-2012.
