PT Akzo Nobel Company help the Merapi cold lava victim

Mount Merapi eruption last year caused many problems to the residents in the vicinity. After the hot volcanic material that caused disaster by killing hundred people and destroyed many villages, then there is still cold lava that threatens every rainy season. Volcanic material in the form of sand and stone mixed with rain water from the Merapi peak flowing and struck areas in the flow area. One of the areas that were stricken by cold lava is the Sirahan village, Salam, Magelang. There were about 100 resident houses and some public facilities in this village were destroyed by the cold lava flowed last February.

To help alleviate the suffering of society, the PT Akzo Nobel has helped the Sirahan village by support the rebuilding the damaged the public facilities since the disaster. Together with the local community PT Akzo Nobel has rebuilt the village office and village hall, two of the vital public facilities that are needed to do the community service in the village.

About 300 million Rupiah ( 30.000 Euros) has donated by PT Akzo Nobel trough its CSR program to be used in conjunction with the Sirahan villlager effort to rebuild the village office and hall building. The construction began at 14 July 2011 and was completed this month, with the capitulation the building to the local governments was held at the 25 November 2011. The capitulation ceremony was attended by the representatives of Akzo Nobel Indonesia, the village government, the Salam district government and the Magelang regency government.

The ceremony was quite festive, beginning with the dances by elementary school and kindergarten students, followed by a handover ceremony and the inauguration of the building by the village government. In this event of PT Akzo Nobel also provided a set of computers as the completeness of the building facility. The event closed with the planting trees in the office’s yard as a symbol and a real action to love the nature.

“Disaster is always unexpected and of course an unpleasant thing, but behind this tragedy there are always lessons we can take. One is that we must revive the attitude of the cooperation. In the spirit of cooperation, we can overcome every problem that is arisen. CSR is the real actions of the company to do cooperation together with the community in facing all the life problems” Mr Jery Egoy the Akzo Nobel Indonesia Alert chairman said.
