The former Saarland premier Peter Müller (CDU) will judge at the Federal Constitutional Court. The Federal Council approved the change unanimously. The 56-year-old Mueller will take over so that only a few months after his retirement from politics in his new job in Karlsruhe.

In August, the CDU politician Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer to his successor as prime minister was elected in Saarbrücken. In Saarland, currently ruled by a Jamaica coalition of CDU, FDP and Greens. Mueller was first elected in 1999 Saarland Prime Minister. After ten years alone, the Union Government had been heaped in the 2009 election massive losses. Mueller was then the Jamaica Coalition.

The Saarland's Minister President Kramp-Karrenbauer said the miller's election to the constitutional judges fill them "with pride". "It speaks for him and our state, if one Saarländer such a responsible position is transferred," said Kramp-Karrenbauer.
