38-year-old Julie McCabe, a mother of two, left in a coma after using a L’Oreal home hair dye kit, reported the Daily Mail. Her survival chance is only 8%. McCabe left unconscious and stopped breathing immediately after applying the hair dye. There is a possibility of fatal allergic reactions of the dye on her. According to the Daily Mail, if McCabe gets out of coma she can’t recover from permanent brain damage, as informed by the doctors treating her.

Chemical para-phenylenediamine (PPD) which is present in almost all hair dyes may be responsible for her current condition. The hair dye kit has been sent to lab for further testing. Any definitive link between L’Oreal hair dye and McCabe’s current condition has not been established yet. According to McCabe’s family, she had used L’Oreal hair dye several times in the past and did not feel any discomfort. The family now plans to take legal action against the company.
