McDonald's Cruelty: The Rotten Truth About Egg McMuffins

Report By: Nina Rai

Chicago, IL, Nov.21, 2011:

In a major boost for animal rights on Nov. 20, 2011 fast food giants MacDonald’s and Target in America dumped one of its biggest egg suppliers after an under-cover video investigating egg suppliers’ farms revealed horrifying cruelty to birds in three states.

The video was released to the general public. Check the same here:

A huge supplier of chicken eggs, Sparboe Farms is a producer of 300 million eggs annually. The eggs from this farm come in regular, fluid, frozen and dried form which is shipped to stores and restaurants all over the US.

However, this routine scenario changed last Friday when moving images shot by undercover agents of ‘Mercy for Animals’ an animal rights group showed some appalling footages of cruelty to chickens.

There were scenes of birds being swung around by their feet by workers, hens bundled into cramped small cages, male chicks stuffed into plastic bags to choke them to death and tips of beaks of squeaking chicks cut off clinically by the staffers.

Wal-Mart, the largest US retailer has stated that it has disassociated itself professionally from Sparboe six weeks back, while another retail major McDonald's has turned to cage-free eggs in Europe.
