Cuba's President Raul Castro has appointed Minister of DefenseGeneral Leopoldo Cintra Frias, a veteran of the Cuban revolution, as the government announced Tuesday. Cintra replaced in office Julio Casas Regueiro, who died on September 4 because of a heart attack.
The two months that has been vacant since have raised doubts about whether I really wanted to General Castro in that position, although it seems he was waiting for the funeral of the former Minister, last weekend, reports Reuters.
Cintra (Yara, 1941) was until now deputy defense minister and has also held important positions military. He fought under the command of Fidel Castro during the uprising against Fulgencio Batista and led the Cuban troops in Angola. It has the high honor of Hero of the Republic.
