A new study suggests air freshener that is able to drive out the smell was bad for health especially in children.

The scientists and some doctors allergist warned that the use of air freshener actually trigger respiratory problems and aggravate asthma and allergies.

Most air freshener products provide a fresh scent. This should not necessarily make you fooled. According to Dr. Stanley Fineman, products that contain volatile organic compounds, which is only able to cover the odor and not eliminate them.

Air freshener also contain formaldehyde, petroleum distillates, limonene, esters and alcohols.

A study showed that volatile organic compounds to trigger the risk of asthma in children.

The high content of these compounds also cause respiratory system irritation problems, headaches, dizziness and even damage the memory.

Dr. Fineman also confirmed nearly a third of the 20 kinds of volatile organic compounds are toxic and extremely dangerous.

"About 20 percent of the population and 34 percent of people with asthma reported health problems related to air freshener. We know that fragrances can trigger allergy symptoms, allergy and asthma worsening of existing ones," said Dr. Fineman.
