TODAYSNETNEWS: 07 March 2011 -- IAEA: International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General, Yukiya Amano, today (7 March) delivered a report to the Agency's Board of Governors. The 35-nation Board is meeting to discuss the IAEA's work on nuclear verification, safety, security and the peaceful use of nuclear technologies. In his opening statement, Director General Amano reported on a range of issues, briefing Member States on the implementation of nuclear safeguards in Iran and Syria. He noted that Iran is not providing "the necessary cooperation" to the IAEA in order to provide "credible assurance" about the absence of an undeclared nuclear programme. SOUNDBITE (English) Yukiya Amano, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General: "While the Agency continues to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material at nuclear facilities and locations outside facilities declared by Iran under its Safeguards Agreement, Iran is not providing the necessary cooperation to enable the Agency to provide credible assurance about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran, and therefore to conclude that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities."
