Andy Williams - The September of My Years (1970)

In Branson, Missouri, 83-year-old Andy Williams broke the news he has bladder cancer to his fans Saturday night during a concert, according to CNN News.

Moon River, Williams' most popular song, also was the name of the theater he founded and that just so happens to be where he broke the news during his Christmas Show Nov. 5. Williams has an autobiography titled, "Moon River and Me," also.

Reassuring the world, Williams told a reporter, "I do have cancer of the bladder."

He showed off his great faith in advancements in medicine when he continuted with, "But that is no longer a death sentence. People with cancer are getting through this thing. They're kicking it, and they're winning more and more every year. And I'm going to be one of them," said Williams.

Williams was a huge success in his heyday and had a string of hits. Many homes had collections of his on black vinyl in cardboard jackets on shelves and often playing on their record players.

Starting out as a child, Williams sang with his brothers in their own quartet, but was soon picked up as a solo singer and later as a regular on Steve Allen's Tonight Show.

He carried his own Emmy-winning television program called "The Andy Williams Show." His variety show ran from 1962 to 71.
