Former prime minister Ivo Sanader, pictured in 2009, arrived back in Croatia late Monday after his extradition

A former Minister of Interior of Croatia was arrested for his alleged involvement in mass murders committed just after the Second World War.

Josip Boljkovac, 89 years old, is accused of ordering the killing of alleged supporters of fascism, at the behest of the Communist resistance.

His lawyer said Boljkovac denies the allegations.

Bolijkovac was Prime Minister of the Interior of Croatia after the nation gained independence in 1991.
