Israel Publicly Rebuked As Palestinians Win Unesco Seat [01.11.2011]

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said Tuesday, the decision by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO, to approve a bid by Palestine for full membership, was not in the ‘best interest for peace’ in the Middle East, that his country, Canada, was joining the US in freezing all voluntary contributions to the UN cultural agency, Huffpost World said.

Canada was contributing $10 million a year, while the US was giving $60 million, the biggest funding for UNESCO.

The UNESCO vote was obtained by the Palestinian leadership after their bid for recognition by the United Nations as a state failed.
