UPDATE: Suspect has been located and arrested, and the baby is safe.

Joseph A. Lester turned himself in at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA, early Tuesday morning, according to Ed Troyer, detective for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Troyer said the baby was laughing and cooing and is safe.

UPDATE: The suspect's vehicle was located and found to be abandoned in Tacoma, although the child and suspect are still missing.

An Amber Alert has been issued for Joseph Lester, who is reported to be in a dark blue Chevy Caprice with WA state plate, ADP3753.

Lester allegedly stabbed a woman to death and kidnapped her 9-month-old child, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office says, according to Kiro News in Seattle.

It took place on the 6000 block of 57th Avenue West, University Place, WA, police said.

Joseph A. Lester is the suspect's name--he is a black male, 23 years old, 5’8”, 155 lbs., with brown eyes, black hair.

Neighbors say the man who is the suspect in the slaying, dropped the victim off at the house; as she exited the car, she allegedly yelled, “He’s killing me,” they said.

She died inside the home, in the kitchen. A family member reported she was eight to 12 weeks pregnant when she died.

The vehicle is said to be a very loud 1992 dark blue/purple Chevrolet Caprice with large rims. The noise from the car is due to the exhaust system.

Lester has a rap sheet, according to police, which includes theft, robbery and attempted robbery.

“At this point, we have a homicide suspect on the run with a 9-month-old girl. We’re after him and he knows it,” sheriff’s department spokesman Ed Troyer said tonight.
