Student suicides doom the nation

My dear – dear Companions of the Contemporary student Civilization,

A big hello to each one of you. I am a student of your age, of your shoes and your kind and each time that I see a fellow student dressed in his school uniform, walking ahead of me or just playing about or totally lost among the pages of the Course Books, I can predict the picture of India of tomorrow “Where we students of today will be the leaders and role models. The pictures of an India, full of qualified doctors and Engineers, the picture of an India where each of the eleven players of the Indian team will bowl like Zaheer and bang like Dhoni. The picture of an India where another Kasab will not be tollerated. The picture of an India where another 26/11 will not be repeated. The picture of an India whose “BEST BRAINS” will not be drained by the U.S. The picture of an India where the newspapers will be free from Crimes and the society free from Corruption. The picture of an India where the streets will not be full of Gutkha Wrappers and half burnt Ciggarette filters. The picture of an India that was indeed long ago dreamt by Tagore, “Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where knowledge is free, where the world has not been broken up into fragments’ by narrow domestic walls, where words come out from the depth of truth……………..where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit, “and for this simple reason I consider myself fortunate enough for sharing this student age with you – The leaders of the India of our dreams.

Well these are my pictures of imagination that I foresee and would love to see them actually occurring but there is something, dear friends that I would now like to draw your kind attention to.

How can we foresee the picture of an India, full of qualified Doctors of the real meritorious AIIMS students like Balmukund Bharati Continiu to kill themselves?

Will the Dream of an India with hi-tech facilities and engineering ever come true if the Engineering students like Rajesh continue to hang themselves from the ceiling fans in their hostels?

Can the picture of an India where the streets are free from the Gutkha wrappers and the half burnt cigarette filters even be imagined if the second year students like Dinesh Pawar Continue to die of OVER DOSE?

Tagore dreamt of an India’ where the mind is without fear and the head is held high’. Yes, the mind is so fearless that it does not hesitate even for a a while before killing itself and the HEAD is held so high that it touches the ceiling fans. Are these spontaneous and inate acts a good sign?

The government of India is planning to reform and reconstruct the education bill and invest crores of rupees to upgrade the education system. What for? I feel, it is the need of the hour not to invest Crores in upgrading the Education but primarily to inculcate the meaning of education into each one of us. The Education system can prosper only if the so called, “suvicide trend’’ comes to an end.

India is recognized worldwide for having the highest suicide rates. The number of students who commit suncides each year in India is far greater than the average number of people born every year in Monaco/ so far we’ve read or heard of the IITor IIMS or College students Committing suicides and we were all trying to look for the reasons behind it. Yet to our surprise, the trend has somehow shifted to the school students which is of course a greater and more serious problem. It is a fatal knock of sinister in disguise.

On August 18, Christina Tamang, a student of a Convent school in Kusseong Committed suicide in her house. Three days later, Wangyal Lama, supposedly the boy friend of Christina killed himself, Again on August 22, Laden Bhutia, a class VIII students of a boarding school in Kalinporg Committed suicide by consuming posion. To add to this, a few days later a class X student of a reputable I.C.S.E. school in kurseong Committed suicide. Yalim Rai of St. Anthony’s school was found hanging from the ceiling of the toilet in the school hostel.

It is really shocking that so many students like me and you have committed suicide within such a short period of time. My dear friends, this was the issue I wanted to draw your attention to because be it Christina or wangyal or Laden or Yalim, all of them were perfectly normal and happy kinds. Their behavior was very such similar to me or you but these special kids were unable to tolerate and withstand a moment’s depression and in a haste, they decided to end their lives and infact they did so. It therefore scares me that more Ladens or wangyals may be born amongst us.

Life is full of ups and downs. There are moments of pain and despair but these periodic feelings do not mean we’ve to put an end to our life. Just imagine how much of joy and thrill awaits you in your future, how much you can achieve and Conqueror, just if you don’t give up. But if you take that one evil second to perform the doom’s task, with it will be doomed the rest of your days, with it will be doomed the happiness of your family, with it will be doomed the years long friendship of your friends, with it will be doomed all you aspirations and dreams, and with it will be doomed the Dream of a Better India, because every single drop counts and no matter how hard you repent you will never get a chance to make a came back.

So let us rejoice and celebrate and make the best use of the life that we’ve got at hand let us say no to SUICIDES

Let us Jump and play, Let us be happy and enjoy our life and transform ourselves into true leader and Citizen of the “India of our Dreams”.

You should picture this great nation,

In its glory glittering so high,

Today trembling of idiocy isolation!

You should imagine the chiding of Dras

Snow underneath and above the sky,

Brave sons stand steady as stars

When you think to die,

You should turn the pages,

You make the nation cry,

You snatch the Gandhi’s wages!

When you think to die,

You should think of the parliament house,

Where the sycophants fight and lie,

Tearing the nation bit by bit like a mouse!

And when you think to die,

Youth of the nation you should know

This great Nation is yours-its my,

So ignite yourself and let our nation glow!
