Halloween (1978) - Official Trailer

Halloween is all about wearing the spookiest costumes, carving a jack-o-lantern and keeping your candy bowl full but it’s not complete without a horror movie marathon. With Halloween falling on a Monday this year, children and adults are celebrating the holiday throughout the weekend and many have decided to follow the tradition of scary-movie night.

Although there is a plethora of horror movies to choose from for a scary-movie night, the best flicks for Halloween are few. Some of the old classic horror movies to watch on Halloween are:

1. “The Omen”- An American ambassador learns his 4-year-old adopted son is the anti-Christ. In addition to featuring the most disturbing movie birthday party ever, this film has one of the most unusual priest murders in horror movie history. (1976)

2. “Rosemary’s Baby”- A lonely housewife, Rosemary, realizes she’s carrying the demon seed. What’s scarier than the devil himself? (1968)

3. "Carrie"- Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, Carrie, a shy and odd girl is a victim of her peers’ most vicious of practical jokes at her high school prom. She avenges her insult in the worst possible way. (1976)

4. “The Thing”– Although a complete disappointment upon its release, John Carpenter’s 1982 remake has become a staple on the Halloween scary-movie list. An alien that can perfectly imitate humans invades an Antarctic research station bringing about paranoia that corrodes the psyches of the base’s isolated inhabitants. (1982)

5. “Halloween”- 33 years since its release, it remains the ultimate Halloween movie. Donald Pleasance tracks the whereabouts of fugitive mental patient Michael Myers as a group of babysitters fall victim to his deadly games. (1978)

6. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”- Like the aforementioned “Halloween,” this film is a favorite of horror movie lovers. Five youths on a road trip run afoul a clan of deranged hillbillies and as the plot unfolds, the flick provides pure nightmare chills, even to adults. (1974)

7. “The Amityville Horror”- Based on a true story, the movie follows the stay of a couple in their Amityville house that was supposedly built on a tribal burial ground. (1979)

8. “The Exorcist”- A young girl is possessed by a demon and her mother calls on the help of two priests to save her soul. (1973)

9. “The Fog”- A town is targeted for revenge by a killer fog containing zombie-ghosts seeking retribution. (1980)

10. “The Blair Witch Project”- A horror flick based on footage found a year after the disappearance of three student filmmakers in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland. (1999)

Among the more recent movies perfect for Halloween includes “Paranormal Activity 3,” “Let Me In,” “Zombieland,” “Let The Right One In” and “The Ring.”
