HOLLIE GREIG AT THR ROYAL COURTS OF JUSTICE 27 OCT 2011

HOLLIE GREIG UPDATE

Following an earlier press release announcing an Open Court of Appeal Hearing and an appeal for public support, that support was certainly visible yesterday at the Royal Courts of Justice.

On 27th October, at the Royal Courts of Justice, Lord Justice Thorpe was appointed to examine an application for an appeal against Shropshire Council`s injunction affecting Hollie and Anne Greig. The previous judge, Mrs Justice Pauffley, had despite complaints against her, refused to allow such an application to take place. Anne Greig successfully took action that forced Mrs Justice Pauffley to be overruled.

Before a packed courtroom, Lord Justice Thorpe, a senior judge from the Court of Appeal and Head of International Family Law, decided that he could not come to a decision and adjourned the case, until it is heard again before three senior judges at a date to be notified. He did state that some of the points made by the applicant were worthy of consideration and also made reference to his awareness of the widespread interest in the Hollie Greig case.

Having spoken with Anne Greig this evening, I have been asked to pass on her heartfelt thanks for the wonderful support received by Hollie and herself from many people who had traveled from all over the country to lend their support both outside the Courts and in the Courtroom.

There can be little doubt that this case is now considered by both sides and by the much-criticised Family Court system to be of great significance in the quest for true justice, which involves the removal of the harmful and unwarranted secrecy that has resulted from the Children Act of 1989, a disastrous experiment that has led to unimaginable misery for the most vulnerable members of society who the justice system is supposed to protect, not victimise.
