Cancun: A fifteen year old boy (identity protected due to age) has admitted to drug trafficking and murder on the Mexican resort island of Isla Murjeres. The boy’s nickname is “El Gallito” or “The Little Rooster.” Heavily tattooed, the boy appears much older than his age, stated Mexican authorities.
“The Little Rooster” has been active with the gang known as “Los Pelones” or loosely translated, “Bald or Shaved Heads.” The gang has been at war with the rival Zetas cartel for domination on the coast of Cancun.
"He confessed to having full participation in carrying out these deeds, and from the start he claimed to have been in charge of drug sales in the area, in this case for the Pelones, and that his duties were to receive the drugs," said the spokesman, who was not allowed to be quoted by name.
The boy will face homicide charges for brutally murdering the two women. He will not be tried as an adult. After the age of 18,he will be released from juvenile court.
Recently, several youths have been caught in police stings for their involvement in the ongoing Mexican drug war.
The boy stated that he murdered two women. The women were part of a drug gang and worked as distributers. The boy stated that he had been trafficking the area near the resort town of Cancun, Mexico and that he was part of a warring gang.
November, 2010, a 14 year-old boy was arrested in conjunction with drug trafficking and murder. The 14 year-old was a U.S. citizen. He confessed to killing and beheading four. The bodies were hung from a bridge.
Sadly, more youths are being recruited by the sparring war gangs. Whether it is for the feeling of power, belonging, or peer pressure; the boys have willingly joined the gangs and engaged in the horrors Mexico has seen in the last few years.
