On Thursday last, there was an accident in southern Chinese city of Foshan wherein,
The gruesome video captured by a closed-circuit camera was posted online and was also aired on various television channels; thousands of Internet users had watched the same. Wang Yue whom family had nicknamed Yueyue would be seen toddling around while in a street close to a hardware market in Foshan City.
Moments later, the girl was struck by a van and though the vehicle slowed down momentarily after running over Yueyue; the driver fled the scene and the vehicle disappeared. It was a shocking accident, no doubt abut that but what followed next was more shocking; the display of declining morality by Chinese people.
As many as 18 people did nothing but watched the girl that lay motionless, drowned in a poll of her own blood for at least next seven minutes. The shocking video further revealed how the toddler was run over by yet another passing vehicle until she was scooped up by a scrap picker. Devastated mother of the girl rushed into the street looking for her daughter but it was already too late by then.
The girl was brought at Guangzhou Military District General Hospital where she died of brain and organ failure and the paramedics described her injuries as ‘too severe.’ ‘The treatment had no effect,’ said Su Lei, the intensive care unit director. Most of Chinese must see this as decay in public morals followed by hundreds of years of economic growth and rising prosperity.
According to state media the girl's father was tending a family hardware shop when the accident occurred while the mother was busy hanging laundry. Unfortunately, none of the parents could notice; Yueyue had wandered outside.
