Batangas Governor Vilma Santos proposed to put a giant signage on Taal Volcano Island similar to the iconic "Hollywood" sign in Los Angeles, California.
Vice Governor Mark Leviste II said that the Batangas provincial council has approved the resolution last October 5 in what they call a "hard-to-miss landmark and potential tourism draw" on the province's famous attraction.
Leviste said “Batangas” signage would measure 14 meters tall and 110 meters wide using the same font as that of the iconic Hollywood sign in California, USA.
A provincial environment and natural resources officer on Thursday clarified that the plan is “not yet final.”
Taal Volcano is part of a protected area covered by Republic Act 7586, otherwise known as the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992, which provides that “mutilating, defacing or destroying objects of natural beauty" are prohibited.
