About 60 students and other demonstrators entered the building of the Congress of Chile, where a Senate committee debated the next year's budget for education.
The protesters unfurled a banner demanding a referendum on education and broadcast the event live on a webcam.
Education Minister, Felipe Bulnes, hurried out of the building.
Chilean students have been protesting for nearly six months to demand free public education.
The Senate President Guido Girardi, said the protesters would not be forcibly removed by police.
