They demand the immediate removal of President Ali Abdullah Saleh from power. Demonstrators congregated at al-Tagheer Square earlier in the day before marching through the local streets chanting anti-government slogans in a bid to pressure President Saleh to step down. [Khaled al Ansi, Demonstrator]: "Here we are a Yemeni youth, students and the elderly, we all ask that you step down immediately without any condition. And this is our message to the world now - all initiatives - we as Yemenis want Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down immediately and unconditionally." This comes as an opposition source on Thursday said a Gulf Arab plan for Yemen's president to step down will guarantee the veteran leader and his family immunity from prosecution. Saleh's response to two months of protests against his 32-year rule has become violent on several occasions. In the latest unrest, witnesses say police shot and wounded two people during a demonstration against domestic gas shortages in the capital Sanaa late on Wednesday.
