Disney star Mitchel Musso was arrested for drunk driving in California on Sunday. 20-year-old Musso was stopped by law enforcement officials in the early hours of Sunday after he failed to respond to traffic police instructions at the site of an unrelated accident.
The young star, best known for his role of Oliver Oken on the popular teen TV show “Hanna Montana”, was arrested in Burbank, California, this weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol. Mitchel Musso was asked to pull over around 4 a.m. Sunday after he failed to stop at an intersection near Buena Vista and Chandler streets and cruised past an accident scene. The underage actor was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, according to Burbank Police Sgt. Sean Kelley.
The officers on duty detected a “strong odor of alcohol" as they approached Mitchel Musso’s black Mercedes Benz. His breathalyzer test showed he had surpassed the legal limit that is .08 for people who are above the age of 21 in California.
"Musso is 20 years old so any alcohol in his system is illegal. He was well over the 0.08 limit," said Sgt. Kelley. The actor was the only person in the black 2007 Mercedes at the time of his arrest, Kelley said.
Mitchel Musso, who also appeared in the 2003 movie “Secondhand Lions” and is also a musician, was taken to a nearby police station and bail was set at $5, 000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Musso was released from custody without having to pay the bail because, Kelley says, "he had no warrants or anything like that," and police will not be releasing his mug shot.
The actor, who released his album in 2009, has not commented on the incident as of yet.
Mitchel Musso, who is a familiar face on the Disney channel, appeared on Disney's reality program "PrankStars" and voiced a character on the animated series "Phineas & Ferb". He is currently starring in “Pair of Kings”.
Mitchel Musso appeared with fellow Disney star Raven-Symone at the War Memorial in 2008 and was on the Chevy Court stage at the 2010 New York State Fair.
It is not the first time a Disney star has been put behind bars. The arrest of Mitchel Musso puts him in the ranks of Lindsay Lohan, Shia LeBeouf and Britney Spears, among several other, former Disney stars that have been in detention.
