For most women the biggest question and decision to make for their wedding day is whether to wear a white or an off-white gown, otherwise cream or ivory in color.
The Queen of Bridal Gown Couture herself,, has a totally different perspective on what brides should be wearing next year and that’s black!
Last Sunday showcased Vera Wang’s bridal gowns in colors including nude and black of all things – a color previously verboten due to its association with death – for New York Bridal Fashion Week.
With the theme for the show being “Witchcraft” the dresses looked unmistakably witchy and dramatic, right in time for Halloween, but also ethereal and alluring.
Moody models floated past in Wang’s raven bridal creations with messed up hair and pale, makeupless faces, as though they’d just gotten out of bed rather late and decided to go through with the wedding anyway – a day of mourning in black – no less!
Now a bit about the dresses themselves – they are all about a bit of Victorian mourning attire with their bustles and full flounced skirts made from tulle and organza as well as lace, chiffon and silk – with a couple of fishtailed creations thrown in as well for the mermaid in you.
The best thing about these black gowns is that they can be worn again after the “big day” for more formal evening events and nobody would ever imagine that it’s your recycled wedding dress!
