Indiana's senior senator, Richard Lugar seems to be having a difficult time these days deciding what he stands for. Senator Lugar's latest remarks regarding the Wall Street protesters is extremely telling on how much he has lost touch with Indiana Conservative Hoosiers. He stated, “They want to speak out and tell the world the pain that they are suffering, and I see that and I hear that. Now, having said that, I'm trying to propose constructive programs."”. http://www.14news.com/story/15706453/sen
Earlier this year, the Senator told the media that the Tea Party needed to "Get Real" when the Tea Party questioned him on his support for the START Treaty, and indicated that we in the movement only speak in clichés. He added that we needed a clear message. We in the TEA Party and 9-12 movement have been very clear with our message since early 2009, which Mr. Lugar has chosen to ignore and actively work against. We ask our senior Senator to listen carefully. Our message is simple: Protect Americans Liberty and Freedom through a smaller federal government which is limited and restricted by our Constitution. Stop spending our Children's future on bailouts and other federal programs that exceed the scope of our Federal Constitution.
It was also just this past week that the senator resigned from the Roosevelt Institute, a liberal think tank, stating that the organization was not as liberal when he joined in 2008. This organization is supporting the Occupy protesters and promotes Lyndon Johnson style big government programs. Then there is the senator's vote against the DREAM Act after he was for the DREAM Act. A few weeks later Senator Lugar stated he was going to vote for a continuing resolution to raise the debt ceiling, then after facing a backlash, he stated he was against the bill. Last August he voted for a one trillion dollar debt ceiling increase that contained provisions to fund Obamacare.
It appears that our senator is trying to be all things to all people as he seeks reelection for a seventh term to become a forty two year fixture of big government. What America needs in this time of unprecedented economic crisis is a public servant that stands the line on Midwestern conservative principles, not one who will flip flop on these principles and say anything to hold onto power.
