Prison riots and break outs are not an uncommon happening in Mexico. Every now and then we keep hearing such stories. In an another such incident 20 prison inmates have died when the fight broke out among them.

This incident happened in the city of Matamoros in northern Mexico. It all started whwn a minor dispute between two prisoners turned violent. Other prisoners jumped into the fray and then it was free for all. By the time the things could be controlled 20 persons had lost their lives.

Besides those killed another 12 injured prisoners have been taken to the hospital.

The city of Matamoros is located right on the border of Mexico-USA. It falls in the Tamaulipas state which is notorious for drug smuggling. Drug gang wars are a common feature here and the jails all over Mexico are filled with members from the powerful drug cartels.

One of the major problem in the jails all over Mexico besides the grug pushers is their overcrowding. This often leads to scuffles and heated arguments among the prisoners.
