Al-Qaeda fighters take control of Yemen town CCTV News
Yemen's al-Qaeda has issued a statement, saying the group has occupied Zan-ji-bar, and claims it as the capital of the Islamic Emirates it's established in South Yemen. Local residents in Zan-ji-bar say about 300 Islamic militants and al-Qaeda elements in the Arabian Peninsula have taken over all government facilities and control a large area of the city. They say at least 16 were killed in two days of fighting between militants and government security forces. Zan-ji-bar lies 400 kilometers southeast of the Yemeni capital Sanaa. It's a stronghold for Al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula, and has been wracked by violence amid protests to end president Ali Abdullah Saleh's 33-year's rule.
