China and Vietnam agreed to strengthen military cooperation

China has overlapping disputes in the South China Sea with Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam

China and Vietnam have agreed to strengthen military coopeation, increase contacts between high-ranking officials and establish a hotline in the two Defence Ministries in a bid to cool down tension.

According to report, the two countries also agreed to launch a pilot project of joint patrol along their borders.

Earlier, both sides signed an agreement to contain a dispute over the South China Sea.
