In 12 years the U.S. Military will be taken over by robots. The initial goal is to have a 30% robotic force. Human involvement cannot be fully replaced yet since there will always be humans in the control process.
According to Bill Smart a researcher in the program, "It's a chain of command thing. You don't want to give autonomy to a weapons delivery system. You don't want the robot to make the wrong decision."
Robot models of today don't look like humans nor walk on two legs. Most look like a scale down version of tanks or planes that are remotely controlled. Humans fingers are always behind the controls. In Iraq the desire is to use robots for the most deadliest task like clearing buildings, recovering unexploded bombs and searching for mines.
