She is Maria Provenzano Singh, a 57-years old woman, Italian by birth. She had, migrated to the states as toddler and later got married to a Sikh from India. She is proud to be one of the few female taxi drivers in NYC. She dresses like an Indian, loves to cook Indian food and has yet to gain acceptance from her family in Italy about her husband – ‘if they do not accept my husband, I do not want to maintain any relation with them,’ is how she puts it.
However, her days in NYC as a cab driver appear to be numbered because, come August, she would be moving out to the Midwest in Indiana to run a gas station there with her husband.
