Calumpit Disaster

President Benigno Aquino III has expressed satisfaction at the way the local government units and other agencies were responding to the needs of the residents affected by flooding in Central Luzon.

He made the assessment after a 7-hour visit to the flood-devastated areas in three provinces, hearing the reports and suggestions by the league of mayors and leaders of farmers organizations.

Although flood was not receding yet in some areas, relief goods were prepared and waiting to be dispatched in the quickest possible time.

Learning that the President was dropping by at the vicinity of Malolos Municipal Hall, which was flooded waist-deep, 42-year-old Wilma Magallon was elated to say she hoped “he could see the pitiful situation here in Calumpit.’’

But nine days after the onslaught of typhoons ‘Pedring’ and ‘Quiel,’with the resilient character of the people of Bulacan, working hard to put their life back to where it was once before, the President was glad to note it was ‘business as usual.’ /ad
