Millions watched the take-off of Tiangong-1 on Thursday, China’s first space laboratory, but some Chinese people watching the CCTV animation of the launch said the broadcaster must have made a mistake of playing ‘America The Beautiful’ for its background music, BBC said.
The video featured only the music from the song and not the lyrics but the song was popular and regarded by many as ‘an unofficial national anthem for the US,’ with words saying, "America! America! God shed his grace on thee."
An internet user on Sina Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, posted; "At the time, I was eating in a hotel with foreigners from an American company and Chinese clients and we were watching the live broadcast, all the Chinese there wanted to disappear."
The Broadcaster had not commented.
(I presumed he had gone into hiding.)
