Those of you who have been following the plight of suspended high school english teacher Connie Heermann, are urged to view the latest WISH TV report by Leslie Olsen!
Ms. Olsen catches Ms. Heermann on her way to attend a five-day "Freedom Writers Teachers Diary" book-planning and student-curriculum workshop to be held in Newport Beach, California, by Erin Gruwell herself.
Heermann states that she receives emails from all over the world in support of her...in light of the harsh, "cruel and unusual," 18-month unpaid suspension by the School Board.
Olsen also interviews new Board President, Steve Maple. Maple acknowledges receiving emails "from all over the country," which are in protest of her sentence -- yet offers no further comment. He says that Ms. Heermann's entry into the upcoming "Freedom Writers Teachers Diary," might make an interesting read.
But here is where the Board's thinking becomes apparent. Maple offers no remark (or, heaven forbid, a compliment) on the fact that Connie Heermann is continuing to take above and beyond measures to educate herself using the proven Erin Gruwell teaching methods.
It would seem that the board is only interested in keeping teachers in line -- and certainly is not impressed at a teacher's continuing education. What a sad state Perry Township is -- even with new Board members. I urge you to see the report, click below!
