
A US fugitive killer has been finally caught after 40 years on the run. He was arrested in Portugal. George Wright, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 1962 on the charges of murdering a a petrol station owner in Wall, New Jersey.
In 1970 George Wright along with three other jail inmates fled from the Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, New Jersey. All of them went to Algeria and joined an underground militant group Black Liberation Army.
In 1972 they came to US and hijacked an airliner. George Wright posed as a priest during the hijacking. They let go about 86 passengers on board after recieving a ransom of $1m. They took the airliner to Algeria. The Algerian government arrested all four of them and returned the ransom money and the airliner to US. However after some time all four of them were set free by the Algerian authorities.
By 1976, three of the George Wright's accomplishes were re-arrested by the FBI. The details of George Wrights re-arrest are not yet been made public by the FBI. The FBI sources say that they have already asked for the extradition of George Wright from Portugal.
