The precipitate escape of dozens of passengers aboard a ferry in the northeastern port Tanjung Perak Indonesian, far left eight people dead, news reports of the archipelago.The incident occurred Wednesday morning after a fire started in the ferry KM Kirana, anchored in the port in Surabaya, capital of the Indonesian province of East Java.The flames were in the bottom of the ship where there were several trucks, including one loaded with onions, which started the fire yet unknown causes, said the website of the Jakarta Post.Passengers panicked and immediately sought out by any of the three gates which had been addressed, raising the death of eight people and wounding at least 231 others, three of whom are in serious medical conditions.Accidents on ferries that link the 17 000 Indonesian islands are frequent, and just yesterday one of the ships that had sailed from Surabaya collided with a tug, causing a fire and killing two people.
