The verdict is out. The Saudi woman driver who defied the ban on women driving in the kingdom will be lashed. The court announced today that she will be lashed for 10 times for breaking the kingdoms laws.
The women who is known only by the name of Shema, had openly defied the ban on women driving and was held for driving in the port city of Jeddah in July. She became a well known figure in the entire world because of her courage and boldness.
In Saudi Arabia there is an organisation known as Women2drive. This organisation keeps encouraging women to drive. following in the footsteps of Shema and encouraged by her boldness many other women in Saudi arabia defied the ban and went on a driving spree during the last few months.
Only a few days back the King of Saudi arabia has given voting right to the women folk for the first time in history. It is being expected by the citizens that the next step by the king might be the lifting of the ban on women driving in the kingdom.
