BUSINESSMEN have donated BD1,207 to the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF).
Rotary Club of Manama president Bashar Ahmadi presented the funds to BDSF chairman Shaikh Ahmed bin Salman Al Khalifa during a lunch at the Gulf Hotel.
BD500 was donated from club funds and BD707 was raised on the spot from members and guests.
The event was held to congratulate the Bahrain team who finished third in the medals table at the fifth GCC Football Championship for the Hearing Impaired.
Held at the Shaikh Khalifa Sports City, Juffair, it featured 225 athletes from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the UAE and 16 from Bahrain.
The championship was organised by the GCC Organising Committee for the Sports of the Disabled and took place under the patronage of Bahrain Olympic Committee's general secretary Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Ahmed said that "We are very proud of our Bahrain team for their accomplishment and grateful to the Rotary Club for their support of this championship".
The club presented gifts to Mr Mirza, team manager Mohammed Ahmed, administrator Adel Ali, team coach Jamal Mohammed, assistant coach Adel Marhoon and translator Shawqi Matooq.
Gifts were also given to athletes Khalafalla Kasam, Ahmed Noor, Akbar Abdulla, Farooq Ebrahim, Hassan Mohammed and Mohammed Hussain, Mohammed Al Sarheed, Yousif Al Alawi, Khalil Ebrahim and Sayed Essa Al Wedaie.
