Beirut - A police report said on Monday that three unknown assailants assaulted a Lebanese groom and briefly kidnapped his bride in eastern Lebanon.

The attack happened on Sunday, hours after the couple were married, as they were heading to the area for their honeymoon.

The police said that the assailants hit the groom in his head, took the keys of his car and cell phone, and kidnapped his bride.

She was released near the eastern town of Zhale a few hours later, but the thieves kept her jewelery and the car.

The Voice of Lebanon radio station said the groom was a Lebanese army corporal.
