Chile: A power outage left in the dark

A power outage caused by a malfunction in the electrical system left in the dark for about three hours Saturday night to central Chile, including the capital, Santiago, affecting 10 million people, of the 17 million living in the country, the government said.

The outage occurred at 20.32 pm (23.32 GMT) and affected the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O'Higgins Santiago Metropolitan and some parts of Atacama and Maule.

Two hours later, the supply was recovered in the Atacama, Coquimbo, O'Higgins and Maule.

In Santiago and Valparaiso, the situation took an hour longer to return to normal.
