KARACHI: Extending the spree of targeted operations in Karachi, Rangers have claimed seizure of heavy amount of arms including hand grenades from a vacant plot in Karachi; meanwhile, a local court has granted police a 7-day physical remand of an accused of target killing arrested by CID police earlier in the day.
According to details, Rangers recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including three LMGs, five Kalashnikovs and scores of hand grenades from a vacant plot located in Sarjani Town, arresting as many as five suspects during a targeted operation.
Meanwhile, Malir Memon Goath police claimed to have rounded up two suspected criminals and seized two Kalashnikovs and 55 bullets from them.
Earlier, a team of CID police, led by SSP Fayyaz Khan, raided a suspected sanctuary of militants situated in Gulshan-e-Iqbal locality, arresting a terrorist hailing from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and seized from his possession, a Kalashnikov and a suicide vest.
Terrorist was later identified as Masood-ur-Rehman alias Mehsodi alias Pardesi.
Police said Mehsodi has been involved and wanted in terror activities carried out against security forces in Waziristan agencies.
The accused had been holding position of ‘Qazi’ of the terror wing in Sargodha in past who has now been active in Karachi associating with the terror group Khan Zaman Mehsud of the defunct TTP outfit, police asserted, adding that Mehsodi has been extending financial assistance to the group to spread terrorism for sometimes in metropolis.
Mehsodi has been remanded for 7-day in police custody by a local court here.
