Provisional Government of Libya, said their forces now control much of the desert city of Sabha, one of the last important stronghold of Gadhafi.
A spokesman for the National Transitional Council (NTC) Ahmed Bani said: "We had control most of the Sabha, except al-Manshiya district. There is still resistance in al-Manshiya but it will soon collapse. "
Wardugu Mohammed, a member of the rebel factions currently engaged in combat Sabha, and the city "was completely under the control of the revolutionary forces."
December 2, NTC said their forces controlled the airport and a base leading Sabha, about 750km from the capital Tripoli, and arrested 150 people from the forces of Gadhafi.
Sabha is a vast desert city of about 100,000 people and many were afraid of retaliation by Gadhafi for many mercenaries recruited here.
Sabha has become a way to flee to the south - a series of convoy carrying officials Gadhafi has supported over here to go to neighboring Niger, and the forces against Gadhafi want to block this route.
