Although the trip to Morelia is only two hours from Queretaro, it’s rarely a pleasant journey home for the Gallos. Last season they lost six nil and the previous year it was five one to the home team. This weekend they suffered defeat once again on their annual trip to the central Mexican city.
Miguel Sabah opened the scoring for Morelia in the 16th minute and in the 27th Gallos keeper Liborio Sanchez pulled off an impressive save which fell to the feet of Rafael Marquez who easily converted the second goal for Morelia.
In the 31st minute Gallos captain Carlos Bueno was pulled down in the box and scored the resulting penalty to take his goal tally to seven in nine games this season.
Miguel Sabah got his second goal of the match with a header just before the half time interval. The visitors were fortunate to be only two goals behind after fending off constant attacks from Morelia.
Gallos coach Jose Cardozo pondered upon making a change and finally did in the 74th minute when on loan Chivas star Adolfo Bautista entered the field of play.
Five minutes later Bautista made a sublime pass to Franco Niell and the little Argentinian striker’s goal made it three two. Gallos pushed forward looking for an equalizer but were cruelly caught on the break and Miguel Sabah got his third goal of the day.
Final score :
Monarcas Morelia 4 – Gallos Blancos Queretaro 2
