A prescription drug manufacturer is doing a major drug recall and what’s more, their accidental pill mix-up could result in unwanted pregnancies!
The generic medications manufacturer based in Huntsville, Alabama, oddly enough called Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, is doing a major drug recall of oral contraceptives, due to a packaging error, where their blister packs were accidentally rotated incorrectly by 180 degrees, reversing the weekly tablet orientations and making the lot number and expiration date no longer visible on top of it all!
Their mistake in packaging the birth control pills means that women could be getting the wrong pills during the month, resulting in inadequate contraception and being at a high risk for an unintended pregnancy, says their voluntary, nationwide, retail-level recall notice. According to Qualitest Pharmaceuticals the affected pills are:
Gildess FE 1.5/30
Gildess FE 1/20
To check the specific lots being affected and recalled nationwide, see this list or call them toll free at 1-877-300-6153 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Qualitest is an Endo Pharmaceuticals company and has been in business since 1983, producing over 600 products for the healthcare industry.
Endo and Qualitest want it known that the source of the error is currently under investigation and the company is committed to “rectifying the issue in a timely manner.”Meanwhile, they are advising that consumers resort to using a non-hormonal birth control method till they can consult their health care provider or pharmacist. Pharmacies are also being instructed by them to contact consumers who have received affected products.
