Officials in Tanzania said at least 192 passengers drowned when an overcrowded ferry sank on Saturday near Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania.
Reports from Zanzibar express ferry, MV Spice Islander, excess burden than previously thought, about 800 people inside the ship. Some survivors said the ferry began leaning after leaving port.
Zanzibar police said there were more than 600 known survivors of victims, some of them severe injury.
The masses gathered at the spot where the bodies were recovered and counted, they were hoping for news of friends or relatives who were on board.
The ferry sank on Saturday morning on the way to the three islands that make up the archipelago of Zanzibar in Tanzania.
Emergency officers and other ships in the area continue to look for other victims in the waters where the ferry sank.
