A tornado has hit the Auckland suburb of Avondale Sunday afternoon. The tornado struck at about 1pm, along with torrential rain, thunder and lightning.
Lightning struck houses, power lines were on fire, and roofs lifted off houses after a tornado ripped through the city. At least eight houses have been damaged by the tornado.
No injuries have been reported yet. Ash St, Canal and Riversdale roads are the most affected areas till now. The Fire Service now estimates the damage has extended across a path approximately one km wide.
Weather watch has again estimated the occurrence of small tornados today and tomorrow in western and northern coastal parts of New Zealand.
