The island of Zanzibar began three days of official mourning for the 200 people killed when an overloaded ferry sank sharply on Friday night after leaving the main island in a night journey to another island, Pemba.

The government of Zanzibar, which is a semiautonomous part of Tanzania, said that many more people are still missing.

Meanwhile, the search for more victims and survivors continues.

The government reported that so far have rescued at least 600 people. The port authorities have been criticized for failing to sail despite being over capacity.
