Benton Louisiana mayor Albert Doughty passes away at age 75

News source Associated Press Benton Louisiana. Benton town officials said to the Shreveport Times Benton mayor Albert Doughty died Thursday after complications of a kidney disease. Doughty was appointed mayor of Benton in July 2004 Lynne Mascagni resigned from her post. The reason for the resignation of Mascagni was not given. Before Doughty became mayor of Benton Doughty worked with with the Louisiana State University (LSU) Cooperative Extension Service as a parish agent.

The Town Council will appoint an interm mayor to replace Doughty. Town clerk Stephanie Sullivant said a special election to elect a new mayor will take place on March 24, 2012.
